Gail's Victory

Providing Exceptional Cancer Care Close to Home

“This is our home and this is where we want to be.”

Gail Ware and Husband Cancer Victory

Gail and John have loved Port Clinton and Lake Erie for years. Originally from the Cincinnati area, Gail worked in several capacities in a local school system for 30 years. They have raised their children and have several grandchildren. With John being an avid fisherman, for many years they owned a home in Port Clinton to stay mainly on weekends to enjoy fishing and hosting friends and family. When they were able to retire and enjoy “Lake Life” full time, they made Port Clinton their permanent home. They moved “in town” and quickly became a part of their new neighborhood. This neighborhood soon became like family with fish fries, taco Tuesday, parties on the patio and even sharing garden space and its wonderful produce! Six months after moving to Port Clinton, Gail started having back pain and ended up having back surgery. During this surgery a bone marrow biopsy was taken which resulted in a diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma. John says “that is when the whirlwind started”. Gail had to have full days of tests, rounds of chemotherapy and trips to Cleveland for procedures. At one point John even said, “I’ll sell it all and move back to Cincinnati if that is what you want for treatment there.” Gail adamantly said “No, this is our home and this is where we want to be.” They worked long and hard to get their home by the lake! By partnering with University Hospitals Gail receives her follow up treatment and care here at Magruder Hospital. They both agreed that if they were in Cincinnati they would be driving a bit of a distance in busy traffic to get her treatment, and the option of staying in Port Clinton was the best decision for them - keeping Cancer Care Close to Home. Gail even walked to one of her most recent treatments here at Magruder Hospital.

Almost all of us have been touched by cancer in some way. It is a stressful and scary time. Whether it is a family member, close friend, coworker, neighbor or anyone else that you care about - you want the best care possible for them close to home. Here at Magruder Hospital, we have collaborated with University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center to provide nationally recognized expert cancer care in our community hospital. University Hospitals has updated their electronic medical records system which has created an immediate need for us to update our oncology medical records as well.

The goal of the Magruder Hospital Foundation is to fund this upgraded system. This will enable us to streamline operations, ensure that vital medical information flows seamlessly between facilities, enhance patient care and ultimately save lives.

Gail Ware Marblehead LighthouseWith your help, we can make exceptional cancer care more accessible to everyone in the community. Every dollar counts. With your generous contribution we can make a difference in the lives of patients who rely on our hospital for their oncology care.
