Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory Therapy

If you have breathing or airway problems, your healthcare provider may recommend that you see one of Magruder’s Respiratory Therapists.  Our Respiratory Therapists see patients with conditions such as:

  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Asthma
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome
  • Bronchitis
  • Emphysema
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Spinal muscular dystrophy
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
  • Auto accidents or other trauma that prevents you from breathing on your own
  • Sleep apnea

Magruder’s Respiratory Therapy Department offers a variety of tests which can help your healthcare team understand what is happening in your lungs and determine the nature of any conditions.  This helps them determine what kind of treatment would be best for you.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Your healthcare provider might also recommend Pulmonary Rehabilitation to help you improve lung function, reduce symptom severity and improve quality of life.  Magruder’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation is offered under the guidance of our Respiratory Therapists and is an outpatient program that includes individual treatment plans, exercise sessions, teaching sessions, breathing and relaxation techniques and support groups for patients to talk with other people living with chronic lung disease.
